Tila found love in the just-wrapped first season of her show, and in it, MTV found a ratings winner. Now, to nobody’s surprise, the lifestyle network has ordered up a second helping of A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila.
MTV has already begun preliminary casting on season two, and it’s set to air the ten-episode season some time this spring.
But, “wait a minute!” you say. Tila Tequila already found love in Bobby Banhart, and last we heard they were happily together.
Well, according to her uber-popular MySpace page, she and Banhart broke up (conveniently) just before the Holidays.
“I wasn’t expecting [the breakup] at all because I thought I had finally found someone that I was compatible with, but I guess I was wrong,” Tequila wrote. “My hectic schedule was really hard on him and we both were getting frustrated, but at the same time … it’s too bad that things didn’t work out between us.”
Some might argue that the show host never actually dated Banhart in the first place. In late November, an unnamed source told the New York Post’s Page Six, “Tila has and has had a boyfriend for over a year, and she’s not really bi. She’s made out with some girls in her past, as all girls have, but she is not bi at all.”
That source has remained mum since Tequila chose the boy over the girl in the show’s season finale, but doubts as to the veracity of the show remain.
Not that that’s a problem. Viewers still tuned in en masse for the December 18 final episode of A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila. 6.2 million sets of eyes watched Banhart win her heart – the most of any broadcast on MTV other than the Video Music Awards or the Movie Awards. Tila Tequila’s show handily beat out the finale of The Hills (4.2 million), MTV’s No. 2 show, and its popularity has even convinced the network to run a spin-off starring one of the season’s most memorable contestants.
That’s Amore, will feature Domenico Nesci on a search for an American sweetheart. It will premiere on March 2.
A Second Shot of Love (?) will likely premiere a couple weeks later.
